“Growing up my family instilled my brother and me with a passion for the outdoors. At a very young age, we were taught to fly fish, hunt, camp, ski, and be stewards of our public lands. From exploring the Rockies, fishing in Mexico, trekking through Iceland, and beyond, my family and I depend on unfailing outdoor gear. Perhaps unsurprisingly, we have a closet full of Filson for all of our different outdoor passions. Below are my top three picks this season.”

This has been my go-to jacket for hitting the field with my Labrador retriever Oakley and over under shotgun. I love how tough the exterior fabric is against briars and brush. Along with unmatched durability, it features extra-large shell pockets in the front, an oversized game pocket in the back, pit zips for extra ventilation, and plenty of other great features designed from hours of real-world testing.

Bottom line: The 3-LAYER FIELD JACKET is a must-have for the serious upland hunter looking for a durable rain/snow shell worthy of bearing the Filson name.

I can’t hype the Ultralight Hooded Jacket enough. It’s the SUV of Filson jackets. It performs as a stand-alone, or as a mid-layer, while also being lightweight and packable. When the temperature starts to drop, have this jacket with you—it will not disappoint. With a ripstop nylon CORDURA® outer shell, and PrimaLoft® Gold insulation providing as much warmth as 500 or 550 fill-power down, this is an insulated jacket for the modern age.

Bottom line: Made with the same rugged dependability you’d expect from Filson, this jacket pays homage to its heritage, using best in class modern materials, without sacrificing quality.

When the air starts to turn crisp, this cap goes everywhere with me—backyard pond hockey, winter dog walks, snowy pheasant fields, and icy steelhead rivers. It practically lives on my head during bitter mid-West winters.
